The latest Neoproterozoic basaltic and siliciclastic rocks and tectonic implications in the Tarim Craton, NW China

Xiaojun Zhou et al.

Summary: The Tarim Craton experienced prolonged late Neoproterozoic rifting during the breakup of Rodinia and assembly of Gondwana. A study of the Ediacaran mafic rocks suggests that a magmatic event occurred around 620-600 Ma, possibly related to the rifting of an active continental margin.

Mid-Neoproterozoic collision of the Tarim Craton with the Yili-Central Tianshan Block towards the final assembly of Supercontinent Rodinia: A new model

Hong-Xiang Wu et al.

Summary: This study presents a new tectonic model to explain a mid-Neoproterozoic collisional orogeny in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), which occurred during the final assembly of the Rodinia supercontinent. The proposed model challenges the prevailing hypothesis of steady-state subduction-accretion tectonic evolution of the CAOB and provides a new perspective based on regional geological evidence.

Tectonic-sedimentary evolution during initiation of the Tarim Basin: Insights from late Neoproterozoic sedimentary records in the NW basin

Weibing Shen et al.

Summary: The northwestern Tarim Basin in China during the Neoproterozoic era exhibited a sedimentary sequence framework that transitioned from syn-rifting to rifting-to-depression transformation and eventually to syn-depression. This evolution path suggests that the initiation of the Tarim Basin occurred in a continental rifting environment and was part of the global breakup of the Rodinia supercontinent.

Neoproterozoic glaciations and rift evolution in the northwest Tarim Craton, China: new constraints from geochronological, geochemical, and geophysical data

Lin Wu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the rifting history and three discrete Cryogenian glaciations in the northwest Tarim Craton region using geochronological, geochemical, and geophysical data. The research identified three distinct Cryogenian glaciations in the Aksu region that can be chronologically correlated with glaciations in the Kuruktag region. The findings suggest a stratigraphic correlation between the Tarim Craton and neighboring regions.

Switching from advancing to retreating subduction in the Neoproterozoic Tarim Craton, NW China: Implications for Rodinia breakup

Guanghui Wu et al.

Summary: The study suggests that during the Neoproterozoic period, there was a change in the subduction style of the Tarim Craton, transitioning from advancing to retreating subduction, which may be related to the breakup of Rodinia.

Glimpses into Earth's history using a revised global sedimentary basin map

Jonathan C. Evenick

Summary: This study delineated 764 sedimentary basins using global geologic datasets to create more consistent basin outlines for future global studies. It was found that basin type relates to maximum sediment thickness and that evaporite deposition was somewhat intermittent throughout Earth's history. Additionally, almost all of the 369 evaporite units were deposited within 45 degrees of the equator and were influenced by regional and global factors.
