Design and structure of catalysts: syntheses of carbon dioxide-based copolymers with cyclic anhydrides and/or cyclic esters

Jiaxin Liang et al.

Summary: CO2-based poly(ester-co-carbonate)s have gained attention for their tunable degradability and adjustable thermal and mechanical properties. Various catalysts, including zinc, cobalt, and chromium complexes, have been developed to provide well-defined polymers for this methodology. The review provides an account of the catalysts used and discusses the development direction and future perspectives of catalyst design.

Review on transesterification in polycarbonate-poly(butylene terephthalate) blend

Anirban Ganguly et al.

Summary: This review article discusses various PC-PBT blends prepared by reactive melt blending in extruders, focusing on the role of transesterification reactions and the effects of different types of phosphites on the properties of the blends. The study found that trace catalyst residue in PBT catalyzes transesterification, leading to changes in the composition and properties of the copolymer. The introduction of different alkyl, aryl, and alkyl-aryl groups of phosphites can inhibit transesterification and alter the morphology, thermal, and mechanical properties of the blend. This research topic has attracted considerable interest from academia and industries.

Synthesis of polyester by means of polycondensation of diol ester and dicarboxylic acid ester through ester-ester exchange reaction

Takayoshi Katoh et al.

Summary: The ester-ester exchange reaction proved to be faster than the ester-alcohol exchange reaction, leading to the successful synthesis of high-molecular-weight polyesters under various conditions. The copolymerization of different compounds through ester-ester exchange also resulted in the formation of new copolymers with confirmation from C-13 NMR spectroscopy and DSC thermal analysis.
