The mechanical properties and microstructural evolution of amorphous PBT/PC blends were studied at different temperatures. Two distinct mechanical response regions were identified, and structure models were proposed to describe the deformation process.
Mechanical properties of amorphous poly(butylene terephthalate)/poly(carbonate) (PBT/PC) blends were studied at various temperatures. Two distinct regions associated with the mechanical response at various temperatures were identified. Also the temperature-related microstructural evolution of amorphous PBT/PC blends was explored at 30 degrees C and 50 degrees C by synchrotron radiation WAXS. The mesophase of PBT could be obtained from the melt by rapid quenching. The presence of PC suppresses the mesophase formation during rapid quenching and also suppresses PBT crystallization during deformation. Structure models were proposed to describe the deformation process of amorphous PBT/PC blends at 30 degrees C and 50 degrees C.
