Effect of erosive parameters on solid particle erosion of cotton fiber-based nonwoven mat/wooden dust reinforced hybrid polymer composites

Sachin Tejyan

Summary: The addition of nonwoven cotton fibers to hybrid epoxy composites improves the physical, mechanical properties and erosion wear resistance of the materials, leading to increased impact strength, hardness, compressive and tensile strength. However, the density of the composites also increases with the addition of cotton fibers. In terms of erosion wear, the most significant parameter affecting the wear is impact velocity.

Physical and mechanical properties of epoxy/Kota stone dust/fly ash hybrid composites for light duty structural applications

Virendra Rajput et al.

Summary: A novel hybrid composite utilizing Kota stone dust and fly ash as reinforcing phases in an epoxy matrix was developed and tested for physical and mechanical properties. The results showed that the hybrid composites exhibited better mechanical properties compared to single filler composites, although physical properties were slightly compromised by the hybridization of fillers.

A Study on Alkali Treatment Influence on Prosopis Juliflora Fiber-Reinforced Epoxy Composites

P. Venkateshwar Reddy et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that alkali treatment of prosopis juliflora fibers can improve their bonding with the polymer matrix, increase their strength, and reduce water absorption. The effects of alkali treatment on prosopis juliflora fibers can be distinguished through FTIR, TGA, and SEM analysis, which are important for optimizing the performance of composite materials.

Yahya Hisma Celik et al.

Summary: In this study, hazelnut, pistachio, and apricot kernel shells were analyzed for their chemical and structural properties, and their impact on the physical, thermal, and mechanical properties of polyester matrix composites was studied. The addition of powder particles at low rates was found to have a positive effect on bending and compressive strength of the matrix material.

Abrasive wear and dynamic-mechanical behavior of marble dust filled bagasse fiber reinforced hybrid polymer composites

Tej Singh et al.

Summary: The study explored the influence of waste materials on various properties of polymer composites, such as physico-mechanical, dynamic mechanical, and abrasive wear behavior. It was found that increasing the waste bagasse fiber loading led to improvements in density, impact energy, and flexural strength, while decreasing hardness and tensile strength after an optimal level. The composites with 10 wt% waste bagasse fiber showed the highest viscoelastic properties. Additionally, the Taguchi method was used to investigate the dry sand abrasive wear behavior, revealing that sliding distance had the most significant contribution to the wear of the composites.

Mechanical, dynamic and tribological characterization of HDPE/peanut shell composites

E. Garcia et al.

Summary: In this study, composites of HDPE with different proportions of peanut shell filler were tested for their dynamic mechanical and tribological properties. The results showed that an increase in fibre content initially led to an increase in strain in HDPE, but after a certain threshold, a significant reduction was observed. The E' values of the composites remained stable within a certain temperature range, and the addition of fibre did not significantly modify the tribological properties of HDPE.
