Multiple ply preforming of non-crimp fabrics with distributed magnetic clamping

Rajan Jagpal et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility and flexibility of the distributed magnetic clamping (DIMAC) method in multiple ply forming strategies, and proposes a method to measure the wrinkling degree. The study also analyzes the impact of ply bending mechanics on the compression folding process.

Novel joint for pultruded FRP beams and concrete-filled FRP columns: Conceptual and experimental investigations

Peng Feng et al.

Summary: A novel joint inspired by ancient timber structures was proposed for pultruded FRP beams and concrete-filled FRP columns, providing a feasible solution for FRP frame structures. Experimental and analytical studies were conducted to assess the structural behavior and develop a design method for the joint. The joint, composed of FRP composites and concrete, exhibited excellent corrosion resistance.

Characterizing the macroscopic response and local deformation mechanisms of a unidirectional non-crimp fabric

Mehdi Ghazimoradi et al.

Summary: This study characterized the macroscopic response and local deformation mechanisms of a warp stitched heavy-tow unidirectional noncrimp fabric (UD-NCF). The fabric's longitudinal, transverse, shear, and bending responses were captured through various tests, revealing the dominant local deformation mechanisms. The study also explored the interdependency between fabric shear, longitudinal, and transverse deformations, as well as the distinct bending behavior of the fabric reinforcement.

Ballistic impact responses and failure mechanism of composite double-arrow auxetic structure

Wanchun Yang et al.

Summary: A novel composite double-arrow auxetic structure was designed and fabricated, and its anti-penetration performance was studied using experimental and numerical simulation methods. The results of the experiments were consistent with the simulation results, validating the effectiveness of the auxetic structure.

Investigation into the effects of inter-ply sliding during double diaphragm forming for multi-layered biaxial non-crimp fabrics

F. Yu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of inter-ply sliding on multi-ply NCF preforms during the DDF process, and found that wrinkles were most severe when the inter-ply angle was 45 degrees, with wrinkle length being related to the relative fibre angle. Experiments confirmed that out-of-plane wrinkles are sensitive to the friction resistance between NCF plies, and lubricating the fibres can minimize wrinkling defects caused by dissimilar inter-ply deformation.

Analysis and experiment of deformation and draping characteristics in hemisphere preforming for plain woven fabrics

Ming Mei et al.

Summary: An analytical analysis was established to characterize the sliding and shearing behavior for plain woven fabrics during hemisphere preforming, with experimental results showing high agreement with theoretical analysis, demonstrating its effectiveness. Moreover, the draping degree of the fabric increases non-linearly with increasing punch depth.
