High pressure responsive luminescence of flexible Eu3+ doped PVDF fibrous mats

Carlos Hernandez et al.

Summary: In this study, flexible PVDF fibrous mats doped with Eu3+ sources were developed using Forcespinning method. The high-pressure optical properties of Eu3+ ions in EN-PF and ES-PF were investigated, showing different extent of changes in their characteristics with increasing pressure. Irreversible changes were observed in both Eu3+ doped PVDF systems under high-pressure conditions, presenting opportunities for multifunctional applications.

Holistic investigation of the electrospinning parameters for high percentage of β- phase in PVDF nanofibers

Rahul Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: PVDF is a piezoelectric polymer with five phases, with the beta-phase contributing the most to its piezoelectricity. Researchers commonly use electrospinning to develop PVDF nanofibers-based sensors, with spinning distance found to have the most significant impact on the percentage of beta-phase. Other important parameters affecting the beta-phase percentage include the electric field, drum speed, and solution flow rate. By optimizing these parameters and developing sensors on a flexible substrate, the study achieved the highest voltage output from sensors made with 1 hour of electrospinning. This systematic study can be applied to optimize nanofiber properties in any electrospinning set-up.

Evaporation-Induced Crystal Nucleation and Morphology of Dried Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride) Droplets

Yongri Liang et al.

Summary: By investigating the factors such as droplet size, solvent evaporation rate, and concentration, the study revealed the impact of the coffee-ring effect on the crystal structure, morphology, and distribution in dried PVDF droplets. Decreasing droplet size and controlling solvent evaporation rate were shown to be effective ways to enhance electroactive crystalline phases nucleation and reduce crystal size.

Structural relaxation and dielectric response of PVDF/PMMA blend in the presence of graphene oxide

Jing-hui Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of graphene oxide on structural relaxation in polymer blends, revealing that graphene oxide could hinder the crystallization of PVDF while enhancing the miscibility in the amorphous phase of PVDF/PMMA. Through broadband dielectric spectroscopy, the effects of structural relaxation on dielectric properties were studied. PVDF/PMMA blends in the presence of graphene oxide exhibited higher dielectric constant and lower loss at room temperature.
