An ovary-specific mucin is associated with choriogenesis mediated by prostaglandin signaling inSpodoptera exigua

Shabbir Ahmed et al.

Summary: In the polytrophic ovarioles of Spodoptera exigua, the mucin-like protein Se-Mucin1 plays a crucial role in choriogenesis, with its expression levels increasing during the adult stage. RNA interference of Se-Mucin1 results in reduced fecundity and malformed egg development, while supplementation of PGE(2) rescues these impairments. These results suggest that prostaglandins mediate choriogenesis in S. exigua by activating genes associated with chorion formation, including Se-Mucin1.

Characterization of E93 in neometabolous thrips Frankliniella occidentalis and Haplothrips brevitubus

Youhei Suzuki et al.

Summary: In thrips metamorphosis, the adult specifier gene E93 starts to increase in expression at the end of the larval stage or in the propupal stage, coinciding with decreased levels of Kruppel homolog 1 and broad genes. Exogenous treatment with a JH mimic can prevent pupal-adult transition and repress the expression of E93. Comparing the expression profiles of key genes among different insect species suggests similarities between thrips' propupal and pupal stages with holometabolous species.
