The decrease in hippocampal transient receptor potential M2 (TRPM2) channel and muscarinic acetylcholine receptor 1 (CHRM1) is associated with memory loss in a surgical menopause rat model

Sehmus Pala et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association of TRPM2 channel and CHRM1 activity with the deterioration of memory functions in surgical menopause. Results showed that in the ovariectomized group, there was a significant decrease in hippocampal TRPM2 and CHRM1 gene expression and immunoreactivity, which correlated with a longer time to find cheese in memory tests. The findings suggest that hippocampal TRPM2 channel and CHRM1 activity play an important role in the decline of memory functions in surgical menopause.

The Theta Rhythm of the Hippocampus: From Neuronal and Circuit Mechanisms to Behavior

Angel Nunez et al.

Summary: The generation of theta rhythm involves interactions between the medial septum-diagonal band of Broca and intra-hippocampal circuits, as well as the intrinsic properties of neurons in these regions. Theta may serve as a timing mechanism to organize movement sequences, memory encoding, and spatial navigation trajectories, with interactions with gamma oscillations being critical for learning and memory processes. The disruption of this interaction is believed to underlie various neurophatological conditions.

Amyloid-β(1-42) peptide induces rapid NMDA receptor-dependent alterations at glutamatergic synapses in the entorhinal cortex

Olayemi Joseph Olajide et al.

Summary: The study found that Aβ(1-42) can rapidly disrupt glutamatergic transmission in the entorhinal cortex, primarily by affecting molecular levels presynaptically and postsynaptically, and involving concurrent activation of GluN2A- and GluN2B-containing NMDA receptors.
