Circular hydraulic jumps: where does surface tension matter?

Alexis Duchesne et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors discuss the unusual scaling law observed in circular hydraulic jumps and argue that the previous interpretation may be incorrect. They propose new scaling laws based on consistency with surface tension thermodynamics and appropriate boundary conditions. The authors aim to reconcile the observations with the existing knowledge of circular hydraulic jump modeling. However, the question of a critical Froude number and its effect on scaling remains unresolved.

Time-resolved 3D visualization of liquid jet breakup and impingement behavior in a shallow liquid pool

Fumihito Kimura et al.

Summary: A new three-dimensional laser-induced fluorescent (3D-LIF) technology was developed to study the hydrodynamic behavior of liquid jets in a shallow pool. The proposed method successfully reconstructed the three-dimensional shape of liquid jets and estimated the behavior of atomized droplets.

Internal hydraulic jump in plane Poiseuille two-layer flow: theoretical, numerical and experimental study

Mrinmoy Dhar et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the internal hydraulic jump in thin films during two-layer flow between parallel plates, reformulating the shallow water theory to analyze the phenomenon in both co-current and counter-current flow. The theory has been validated with experimental data and numerical simulations, showing its effectiveness in predicting viscous jumps with less effort compared to simulations.
