From quantum link models to D-theory: a resource efficient framework for the quantum simulation and computation of gauge theories

Uwe-Jens Wiese

Summary: Quantum link models are an extension of Wilson's lattice gauge theory with finite-dimensional Hilbert space, which can be dimensionally reduced to obtain asymptotically free theories. Different gauge theories can be obtained by dimensionally reducing quantum link models in different dimensions.

Probing Symmetries of Quantum Many-Body Systems through Gap Ratio Statistics

Olivier Giraud et al.

Summary: This study extends the gap ratio distribution analysis to cases with discrete symmetries, deriving analytical surmises for random matrices with multiple independent blocks and validating them through simulations. The research shows how the study of spectral gap ratios can reveal the presence of symmetries in various models in many-body physics.

Tensor lattice field theory for renormalization and quantum computing

Yannick Meurice et al.

Summary: This article discusses the successes and limitations of statistical sampling for a sequence of models studied in the context of lattice QCD, and emphasizes the need for new methods to deal with finite-density and real-time evolution. It shows that these lattice models can be reformulated using tensorial methods and applied to practical implementations of the Wilson renormalization group program and quantum simulation experiments.

Simulating 2+1D Z3 Lattice Gauge Theory with an Infinite Projected Entangled-Pair State

Daniel Robaina et al.

Summary: In this study, a zero-temperature pure Z(3) lattice gauge theory in 2 + 1 dimensions was simulated using an iPEPS Ansatz. The results show two distinct phases separated by a phase transition, and an update strategy was introduced to enable the application of plaquette terms and Gauss-law constraints. Through the calculation of spatial Wilson loops, the existence of a confined phase was proven, demonstrating the ability to reproduce key features of gauge theories with relatively low computational cost. It is anticipated that this strategy will allow for the extension of iPEPS studies to more general LGTs.

Realizing topologically ordered states on a quantum processor

K. J. Satzinger et al.

Summary: The discovery of topological order revolutionized the understanding of quantum matter and laid the theoretical groundwork for quantum error-correcting codes. By preparing the ground state of the toric code Hamiltonian on a superconducting quantum processor, researchers were able to measure topological entanglement entropy and simulate anyon interferometry. Investigating aspects of the surface code, including logical state injection and the decay of nonlocal order parameter, showed the potential of quantum processors in studying topological quantum matter and error correction mechanisms.

Entanglement Hamiltonian tomography in quantum simulation

Christian Kokail et al.

Summary: The paper discusses an efficient tomographic protocol for studying entanglement structures in quantum many-body systems using few measurements. The protocol allows for the measurement of entanglement spectra in spin systems and has been demonstrated on trapped-ion quantum simulators. It addresses the challenge of measuring entanglement in quantum simulation and brings subsystems of tens of spins within reach for current experiments.

QCD thermalization: Ab initio approaches and interdisciplinary connections

Juergen Berges et al.

Summary: Heavy-ion collisions at BNL's RHIC and CERN's LHC provide evidence for the formation of quark-gluon plasma, with ongoing research into how this strongly correlated matter forms, its properties in non-equilibrium states, and the thermalization process. Theoretical progress in weak-coupling QCD and strong-coupling holographic approaches is reviewed, along with interdisciplinary connections to non-equilibrium dynamics in various systems. Current measurements in heavy-ion collisions focus on early non-equilibrium stages, with promising avenues for further progress in thermalization studies identified.

Search for efficient formulations for Hamiltonian simulation of non-Abelian lattice gauge theories

Zohreh Davoudi et al.

Summary: The paper investigates the Hamiltonian formulation for non-Abelian lattice gauge theories, analyzing different formulations in terms of their dependence on the dimension of physical Hilbert space and the impact on spectrum and dynamics. The study reveals clear advantages in simulating within the loop-string-hadron framework, which significantly reduces costs and enables more efficient and reliable quantum simulations. Future research will focus on analyzing resource requirements for quantum simulations of non-Abelian LGT to identify the most efficient Hamiltonian formulation relevant to nature.

Z2 lattice gauge theories and Kitaev's toric code: A scheme for analog quantum simulation

Lukas Homeier et al.

Summary: This work presents a building block for Z(2) lattice gauge theories coupled to dynamical matter, enabling the implementation of the toric code ground state and its topological excitations. The proposal is realized in the second-order coupling regime and is well suited for superconducting qubit implementations. The study outlines a pathway for preparing topologically nontrivial initial states and experimental signatures of the ground-state wave function.
