How Valley-Orbit States in Silicon Quantum Dots Probe Quantum Well Interfaces

J. P. Dodson et al.

Summary: In this study, measurements and calculations of the energies of "valley-orbit" states in silicon quantum dots were conducted to understand the interplay between interface roughness, orbital confinement, and electron interactions. The results provide insights into the physical contributions and offer a new approach to probe the quantum well interface.

Detuning Axis Pulsed Spectroscopy of Valley-Orbital States in Si/Si-Ge Quantum Dots

Edward H. Chen et al.

Summary: The study describes a spectroscopic method for probing excited states in isolated Si/Si-Ge double quantum dots and measures the energies of valley excited states to evaluate the dependence of valley splitting on quantum well width and other epitaxial conditions. The results indicate that narrower wells can be beneficial for increasing valley splittings, but this effect may be confounded by variations in growth and fabrication conditions. These findings highlight the importance of valley-splitting measurements in guiding the development of Si qubits.

Coherent Control and Spectroscopy of a Semiconductor Quantum Dot Wigner Molecule

J. Corrigan et al.

Summary: This study reports quantum control of eight different transitions in a silicon-based quantum dot, revealing a dense set of energy levels with characteristic spacing far smaller than the single-particle energy, which is argued to arise from Wigner-molecule physics.

Strong electron-electron interactions in Si/SiGe quantum dots

H. Ekmel Ercan et al.

Summary: The study shows that strong electron-electron interactions can significantly suppress low-energy excitation, but when valley-orbit interactions caused by interface disorder are weak, the excitation energy splitting value may approach its non-interacting value, even when electron-electron interactions are strong and Wigner-molecule behavior is observed.
