Axial compression behaviour of thin-walled metallic tubes under quasi-static and dynamic loading

S. K. Tak et al.

Summary: The finite element computations were used to study the axial compression behavior of thin-walled metallic tubes under quasi-static and dynamic loading conditions in this research. Different geometric shapes of tubes demonstrate varied energy absorption and deformation characteristics under different loading conditions.

Loading rate dependency of strain energy release rate in mode I delamination of composite laminates

Amin Ekhtiyari et al.

Summary: The study investigated the loading rate dependency of mode I delamination growth in CFRPs, finding a clear decrease in propagation fracture toughness and average SERR at high loading rates. The reduced fracture resistance at elevated rates was physically explained in correlation with fiber bridging, fiber breakage, and matrix cleavage observed in fracture surfaces via scanning electron microscopy.

The effect of stacking sequence on the LVI damage of laminated composites; experiments and analysis

Shiyao Lin et al.

Summary: The comprehensive experimental and computational low velocity impact (LVI) damage study on T800s/3900-2B laminated composites provided accurate numerical results and predictions, characterized the induced damage with ultrasound C-scanning and high-resolution micro-CT, and resolved the physics of LVI damage of laminated composites with various stacking sequences. The Enhanced Schapery Theory (EST) model was used for computational predictions, contributing to understanding the LVI behavior of laminated composites.

Mesoscopic and multiscale modelling in materials

Jacob Fish et al.

Summary: Multiscale modelling is a powerful tool for simulating materials behavior across different length and time scales. It aims to simulate continuum-scale behavior using information from computational models of finer scales, rather than relying on empirical constitutive models. Various methods have been developed to bridge multiple length and time scales, including techniques integrating new fields such as machine learning and material design.
