Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric and adolescent vaccinations and well child visits in the United States: A database analysis

Stephanie A. Kujawski et al.

Summary: We assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric and adolescent vaccination administration and well child visit attendance in the United States. The results showed substantial disruptions in well child visit attendance and vaccination administration for children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and early 2021. Continued efforts are needed to monitor recovery and catch up to avoid outbreaks and morbidity associated with vaccine-preventable diseases.

Association of the COVID-19 Pandemic With Routine Childhood Vaccination Rates and Proportion Up to Date With Vaccinations Across 8 US Health Systems in the Vaccine Safety Datalink

Malini B. DeSilva et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to lower childhood vaccination rates in the US, with lower vaccination coverage for age groups of 7 months, 18 months, and 13 years, as well as variations by race and ethnicity. Targeted interventions are needed to increase routine childhood vaccination in undervaccinated communities.

Factors associated with measles resurgence in the United States in the post-elimination era

Christian Akem Dimala et al.

Summary: Despite a reduction in the percentage of imported measles cases over the past two decades, the incidence of measles in the US continues to increase. This is due to an increasing number of outbreaks in unvaccinated subpopulations, reinforced by vaccine hesitancy, leading to internal transmission.

Pediatric Vaccination During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Bradley K. Ackerson et al.

Summary: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric vaccination coverage was assessed in Southern California. Vaccination uptake declined during the pandemic, with some recovery in younger children. Measles-containing vaccine uptake improved in older children, but total vaccine uptake remained lower, indicating the need for additional strategies to increase vaccination coverage.
