Effects of a Pseudomonas H6 surfactant on rainbow trout and Ichthyophthirius multifiliis: In vivo exposure

Summary: The study investigated the potential of Pseudomonas H6 lipopeptide as a surfactant in preventing parasitic infection in rainbow trout fry caused by Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. Summary: A lipopeptide produced by Pseudomonas H6 has antiparasitic effects and acts as a biosurfactant. It can potentially replace chemotherapeutants in aquaculture. Ecotoxicological tests showed higher toxicity to crustaceans and lower toxicity to specific algae. The decreasing concentration of the compound in fish tank suggests adsorption, absorption, or degradation. Further studies are needed to assess its impact under different environmental conditions.

Effects of thermal and mechanical delousing on gill health of farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.)

Summary: Widespread resistance to medicinal delousing compounds has led to the use of non-medicinal delousing methods in Norwegian aquaculture. This study investigated the impact of thermal and mechanical delousing on gill health in farmed Atlantic salmon. The results showed that thermal and mechanical delousing could cause gill damage, changes in gene expression, and increased prevalence of gill pathogens. These findings highlight the potential negative effects of non-medicinal delousing and the need for further research.

Negligible risk of zoonotic anisakid nematodes in farmed fish from European mariculture, 2016 to 2018

Summary: An observational parasitological survey was conducted on European farmed marine fish to evaluate the zoonotic Anisakidae parasite risk. The results showed no zoonotic parasites were found in any of the fish investigated, suggesting the risk linked to zoonotic Anisakidae in the examined fish species from European mariculture appears negligible. This study laid the groundwork for considerations to amend the current EU regulation.

Inflammatory reactions in rainbow trout fins and gills exposed to biocides
