Evidence of the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi in dogs and associated ticks in Egypt

Summary: This study aimed to detect B. burgdorferi in different tick vectors and animal hosts. The results revealed a high prevalence of tick infestation among domesticated animals in Egypt, but a relatively low rate of B. burgdorferi infection. Molecular characterization of ticks using the ITS2 region was proven to be a reliable tool for species discrimination.

Seroprevalence and associated risk factors for vector-borne pathogens in dogs from Egypt

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of canine vector-borne diseases in Egypt, finding that 18.2% of dogs were seropositive for at least one pathogen, with Ehrlichia spp. being the most common. Risk factors included living outdoors, female sex, German Shepherd breed, tick infestation, irregular sanitation, and not using ectoparasiticides. Effective ectoparasite control strategies and regular examination of pet dogs are recommended to prevent zoonotic transmission.
