IRE1α drives lung epithelial progenitor dysfunction to establish a niche for pulmonary fibrosis

Vincent C. Auyeung et al.

Summary: The study reveals that IRE1 alpha, a central mediator of the unfolded protein response, plays a critical role in promoting the abundance and function of DATPs. Inhibition of IRE1 alpha signaling reduces DATP cell number and fibrosis, indicating the cell-autonomous promotion of transition into the DATP state by IRE1 alpha. Furthermore, IRE1 alpha enhances the profibrotic phenotype of DATPs by regulating integrin alpha v beta 6 expression and DNA damage response signaling. Pharmacological blockade of IRE1 alpha signaling helps resolve the DATP state, ameliorating fibrosis and promoting lung regeneration.

Effects of exposure to fine particulate matter on the decline of lung function in rural areas in northwestern China

Di Tian et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify the factors affecting lung function and the correlation between PM2.5 exposure and lung function in a rural Chinese population. Results showed that factors such as sex, age, cooking oil fumes exposure, and occupational exposure were negatively correlated with lung function, while educational level, economic status, tea consumption, and alcohol consumption were positively correlated. Additionally, long-term exposure to high concentrations of PM2.5 was associated with reduced lung function in rural areas in northwestern China.

The heart as a target for deltamethrin toxicity: Inhibition of Nrf2/HO-1 pathway induces oxidative stress and results in inflammation and apoptosis

Xue Yang et al.

Summary: As a synthetic pyrethroid pesticide, deltamethrin (DLM) is widely used in veterinary medicine and farming. DLM-induced oxidative stress causes harm to organisms. The purpose of this research was to study the impact and molecular mechanism of DLM on inflammation and apoptosis in quail cardiomyocytes through the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway. The results showed that DLM induced dose-dependent cardiomyocyte injury by weakening antioxidant defense through down-regulating Nrf2 and HO-1. Furthermore, DLM stimulation induced apoptosis in quail heart and increased inflammation markers.
