Cobalt(III)-Catalyzed Chemo- and Regioselective [4+2]-Annulation of Aromatic Sulfoxonium Ylides with 1,3-Diynes

Suresh Kumar Yadav et al.

Summary: This study describes an air-stable, highly abundant, and cost-effective Co(III)-catalyzed redox-neutral [4 + 2] annulation reaction of aromatic sulfoxonium ylides with 1,3-diynes, resulting in the synthesis of useful substituted 1-naphthol derivatives in a regioselective manner. Furthermore, the prepared 1-naphthols with internal alkynes were converted into polycarbocyclic molecules and spiro-dienone derivatives with high yields. A possible reaction mechanism involving ortho C-H activation as a key step was proposed and supported by deuterium labeling and kinetic isotope labeling studies.

Manganese(I)-Catalyzed Site-Selective C6-Alkenylation of 2-Pyridones Using Alkynes via C-H Activation

Shanhong Wan et al.

Summary: A Mn(I)-catalyzed chelation-assisted direct C6-H alkenylation of 2-pyridones with both terminal and internal alkynes has been developed, leading to high yields of the products. Mechanistic studies indicate the involvement of a five-membered organomanganese as the key intermediate.

Synthesis and Photophysical Study of Heteropolycyclic and Carbazole Motif: Nickel-Catalyzed Chelate-Assisted Cascade C-H Activations/Annulations

Namrata Prusty et al.

Summary: A nickel-catalyzed synthesis method allows for selective functionalization of indole and establishment of heteropolycyclic aromatic motifs through C-H functionalization, showing good adaptability to both aromatic internal alkynes and aliphatic alkynes. Notably, catalytic enhancement with sodium iodide as an additive was observed during optimization, and the photophysical properties of highly conjugated molecules were also studied.

Ligand-Controlled Ni(0)-Al(III) Bimetal-Catalyzed C3-H Alkenylation of 2-Pyridones by Reversing Conventional Selectivity

Ge Yin et al.

Summary: Conventional C-H alkenylation of 2-pyridone with electron-deficient C-H bonds typically occurs at the C6 or C4 position using low-valent transition-metal catalysis. However, a Ni-Al bimetallic catalyst with a bifunctional ligand resulted in a reversed selectivity, providing high yields of C3-alkenylated 2-pyridones.

Cobalt(III)-Catalyzed C-6 Alkenylation of 2-Pyridones by Using Terminal Alkyne with High Regioselectivity

Smruti Ranjan Mohanty et al.

Summary: The Co(III)-catalyzed alkenylation of 2-pyridones using terminal alkyne as a reaction partner with high regioselectivity has been demonstrated for the first time. The reaction conditions are mild, compatible with a wide range of substrates, and show good functional group tolerance. High-resolution mass spectrometry detected the formation of five- and seven-membered cobaltacycle intermediates.

Cobalt(III)-Catalyzed Regioselective C6 Olefination of 2-Pyridones Using Alkynes: Olefination/Directing Group Migration and Olefination

Xin Xu et al.

Summary: A highly regio- and stereoselective direct C6 olefination of 2-pyridones with alkynes using Co(III) catalysis and chelation assistance has been developed. Varying reaction conditions allows for different pathways to achieve tetrasubstituted 6-vinyl-2-pyridones or C6-olefinated 2-pyridones. The protocol features 100% atom economy, excellent site selectivity, high stereoselectivity, and good compatibility of functional groups, with experimental and theoretical studies providing mechanistic insight.
