Iron-Catalyzed Vinylzincation of Terminal Alkynes

Qiang Huang et al.

Summary: The newly developed iron catalysts facilitate the vinylzincation of terminal alkynes, leading to efficient synthesis of organozinc reagents with excellent functional group tolerance, substrate scope, and high chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and stereoselectivity. Iron catalysts demonstrate superior activity, chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and stereoselectivity compared to other metal catalysts when appropriate ligands are employed.

Acetate Facilitated Nickel Catalyzed Coupling of Aryl Chlorides and Alkyl Thiols

Regina M. Oechsner et al.

Summary: We present a catalytic system that allows for mild and fast coupling of aryl chlorides with primary, secondary, and previously challenging tertiary alkyl thiols using an air-stable nickel(II) precatayst in combination with cost-effective potassium acetate as a base at room temperature. This system exhibits excellent tolerance towards various functional groups and yields thioethers in high yields, including pharmaceutical compounds. The chemoselective functionalization of disubstituted substrates is successfully demonstrated.

Repurposing π Electrophilic Cyclization/Dealkylation for Group Transfer

Joseph A. Kaplan et al.

Summary: A metal-free regio- and stereocontrolled group-transfer route to synthesize trisubstituted alkenes is described, where electrophilic heterocyclization followed by ring-opening group transfer is employed. The mechanistic pathway likely involves zwitterionic intermediates rather than haloborated ones, leading to predictable regio- and stereochemistry in the final acyclic alkene product with up to four modifiable substituents. Downstream functionalization reactions demonstrate the versatility of the resulting alkenes with predictable regio- and stereochemistry.

Cation- and Anion-Mediated Supramolecular Assembly of Bismuth and Antimony Tris(3-pyridyl) Complexes

Alvaro Garcia-Romero et al.

Summary: This study reveals the formation of a common hybrid metal-organic framework structure with Cu(I) and Ag(I) salts using tripodal ligands containing antimony and bismuth. It also demonstrates that the greater Lewis acidity of bismuth compared to antimony can lead to the collapse of the MOF structure. This provides insights into how the electronic effects of the bridgehead atoms in these ligand systems can impact their supramolecular chemistry.

P-Block Atomically Dispersed Antimony Catalyst for Highly Efficient Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Tongzhou Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a p-block antimony single-atom catalyst with Sb-N-4 configuration was successfully synthesized for efficient catalysis of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The Sb SAC exhibited superior ORR activity and stability compared to most transition-metal based SACs and commercial Pt/C. Experimental and theoretical calculations revealed that the active catalytic sites were positively charged Sb-N-4 single-metal sites, indicating promising potential for the design of highly active main-group-metal SACs.

Organoboron compounds as versatile reagents in the transition metal-catalyzed C-S, C-Se and C-Te bond formation

Angelita M. Barcellos et al.

Summary: Organochalcogen compounds have significant synthetic and biological applications. The coupling reaction between boronic acids, borate anions or boronic esters with different sources of chalcogen mediated by transition metals is a powerful tool for the formation of functionalized diorganyl chalcogenides. This strategy allows for the preparation of selenides, sulfides, and tellurides with high complexity and molecular diversity in good to excellent yields.
