Multi-pass cells for post-compression of ultrashort laser pulses

Anne-Lise Viotti et al.

Summary: Ultrafast lasers with high power and short pulses have a wide range of applications in material processing, photon and particle sources, light-matter interactions, and medical diagnostics. The multi-pass cell technique has significantly improved the power efficiency and enabled lasers with higher average and peak powers. The recent progress in this technique has opened up new possibilities for ultrafast lasers with tens of terawatts peak power and multiple kilowatts average power.

Ultrafast Tm-doped fiber laser system delivering 1.65-mJ, sub-100-fs pulses at a 100-kHz repetition rate

Tobias Heuermann et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a high-average-power, ultrafast, short-wavelength infrared laser system through the coherent combination of four ultrafast fiber amplifiers. The system achieves high peak power and stability. This result highlights the potential of coherent beam combining techniques for power scalability in the short-wavelength infrared spectral region.

Spectral broadening of 112 mJ, 1.3 ps pulses at 5 kHz in a LG10 multipass cell with compressibility to 37 fs

Martin Kaumanns et al.

Summary: The study utilizes the first-order helical Laguerre-Gaussian mode to improve the energy throughput of nonlinear spectral broadening in gas-filled multipass cells, achieving spectral broadening of pulses with energies beyond 100 mJ. It is suitable for an average power of more than 500 W while maintaining excellent spatio-spectral homogeneity and a Gaussian-like focus profile, with demonstrated compressibility from 1.3 ps to 37 fs.

Multipass cell for high-power few-cycle compression

Michael Mueller et al.

Summary: A multipass cell for nonlinear compression to few-cycle pulse duration is introduced, utilizing dielectrically enhanced silver mirrors on silicon substrates. It achieves spectral broadening with high output power, high spatio-spectral homogeneity, and good output beam quality. Finite element analysis shows scalability of this cell to high average output power.
