Simultaneously surface- and edge-emitting plasmonic laser operating in the near-infrared region

Zihad Azad et al.

Summary: Near-infrared plasmonic lasers play a crucial role in developing sustainable nanoscale optoelectronic circuitry. The research team designed an efficient plasmonic laser that works in the near-IR region as both surface- and edge-emitting laser with a collimated far-field beam pattern. By using 2D metal nanohole arrays or grooves, they achieved collimation and focusing of the far-field beam patterns for both surface and edge emissions. The optimized collimator successfully produced a narrow spot of 3 degrees x 4 degrees for edge emission.

A merged lattice metal nanohole array based dual-mode plasmonic laser with an ultra-low threshold

Shadman Shahid et al.

Summary: Plasmonic lasers have the potential for cutting-edge applications but face challenges such as high losses in metals and lack of spatial coherence. This study proposes a novel design using merged lattice metal nanohole arrays and a one-dimensional photonic crystal to achieve dual-mode lasing, offering intense laser output with low thresholds and highly directional far-field patterns.

Dual-mode near-infrared light tunable absorber based on graphene by optical Tamm state and microcavity

Shuhan Chen

Summary: A metal dual distributed Bragg reflector (DBR)-based cavity structure embedded with graphene and spacer layer is proposed to tune the dual-mode absorption. The effects of optical spacer thickness, fermi level of graphene, DBR pair number and Bragg wavelength on tuning dual-mode absorption of graphene are explored. The proposed configuration shows the capability of multilayer stack to achieve tunable dual-mode absorption.
