Electrically tunable graphene metamaterial with strong broadband absorption

Wei Yao et al.

Summary: A metamaterial composed of graphene-Al2O3-graphene stacks is proposed and demonstrated in this study, allowing for the electric modulation of both graphene layers simultaneously with absorption modulation of over 50% and a bandwidth of 3.55 μm. The optical behaviors of the tunable metamaterial can be influenced by various factors, including incident polarization, dielectric thickness, and the Fermi energy of graphene.

Highly sensitive detection of malignant glioma cells using metamaterial-inspired THz biosensor based on electromagnetically induced transparency

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel metamaterial sensor has been developed for molecular classification of glioma cells, utilizing polarization-independent electromagnetic induced transparency (EIT) at THz frequencies. By observing two degrees of variations, the sensor can distinguish mutant and wild-type glioma cells directly without the need for antibodies. Experimental results show promising potential for sensitive biosensing technology.

Plasmonic Chiral Metasurface Absorber Based on Bilayer Fourfold Twisted Semicircle Nanostructure at Optical Frequency

Yongzhi Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper presents a plasmonic chiral metasurface absorber (CMSA) that achieves high selective absorption for right-handed and left-handed circular polarization lights at optical frequency. The CMSA shows strong circular dichroism effects with selective absorption peaks for RCP and LCP lights at different resonance frequencies, reaching absorption rates of 93.2% and 91.6% respectively. The chiroptical response mechanism is illustrated by electric fields distributions of the unit-cell nanostructure, and the influence of CMSA geometry on circular polarization selective absorption is systematically studied.
