Evolution of optical Tamm states in a 1D photonic crystal comprising a nanocomposite layer for optical filtering and reflecting purposes

Hussein A. Elsayed et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reflection properties of a one-dimensional dielectric photonic crystal covered with metallic and nanocomposite layers. The main focus is on controlling the intensity and number of resonant Tamm plasmon modes by adjusting the characteristics of the nanocomposite material. The results show the localization of Tamm plasmon resonance states in the reflectance spectrum of the designed structure, and the resonance is improved by attaching a nanocomposite layer between the metallic layer and photonic crystal structure. The proposed structure has potential applications in optical devices such as switches, sensors, back mirrors for solar cells, and multichannel filters.

Broad Palettes of Polarizing Structural Color Filter Based on Subwavelength Metallic Nanograting

Sixian Ren et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel polarizing color filter design based on a one-dimensional subwavelength grating, allowing for different colors of TM-polarized light transmission by adjusting the geometric parameter of period. Theoretical analyses show that cavity modes and guide mode resonant contribute to enhancing optical TM polarized light transmission.

A Tamm plasmon-porous GaN distributed Bragg reflector cavity

J. R. Pugh et al.

Summary: This paper presents the design, measurement, and optimization of a Tamm plasmon metal-distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) cavity for the green part of the visible spectrum. By using an optimized silver layer thickness and a porous DBR created with a novel electro-chemical etching technique, this device has potential applications in low-cost lasers, photodetectors, and photoconductive switches for visible wavelengths.

Titanium nitride as a plasmonic material for excitation of Tamm plasmon states in visible and near-infrared region

Samir Kumar

Summary: This study demonstrated the existence of Tamm plasmon polariton modes at the interface of one-dimensional photonic crystals and metal nitrides, with a focus on titanium nitride as an alternative plasmonic material. Theoretical calculations and spectral property evaluations were conducted, along with investigations into the optimum TiN thickness for TPP excitation. The angular dispersion characteristics of the TPP modes in TiN-PhC configurations were also explored, providing insights for designing devices based on TPPs.
