Association between coffee consumption and total dietary caffeine intake with cognitive functioning: cross-sectional assessment in an elderly Mediterranean population

Indira Paz-Graniel et al.

Summary: Coffee consumption and total dietary caffeine intake were found to be associated with better cognitive functioning as measured by various neuropsychological tests in elderly overweight/obese individuals with MetS. Participants who consumed coffee or caffeine had better cognitive functioning compared to non-consumers, while decaffeinated coffee consumption did not show significant associations. Participants with higher total dietary caffeine intake had lower odds of poor cognitive functioning.
