Rapeseed Morpho-Physio-Biochemical Responses to Drought Stress Induced by PEG-6000

Maria Batool et al.

Summary: This study provides a comparative analysis of 24 rapeseed cultivars under drought conditions, revealing their potential for drought tolerance and the mechanisms involved. It was found that tolerant cultivars exhibited higher efficiency in enzymatic and osmoregulatory mechanisms compared to sensitive cultivars. Results also showed that JYZ 158 and FY 520 cultivars had higher drought tolerance and could be important germplasm resources for breeding drought-tolerant rapeseed.

Combined Application of Organic and Inorganic Amendments Improved the Yield and Nutritional Quality of Forage Sorghum

Ahmad Sher et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of the combined application of organic and inorganic amendments on the yield and nutritional quality of forage sorghum. The results showed that the combined application of poultry manure, biochar, and press mud significantly increased both the yield and nutritional quality of sorghum. However, it also reduced the digestibility of the sorghum under semi-arid conditions.

Salinity Stress in Wheat: Effects, Mechanisms and Management Strategies

Mahmoud F. Seleiman et al.

Summary: Salinity stress poses a major threat to global food production, particularly affecting wheat productivity. Understanding wheat behavior to salinity stress is crucial for devising countermeasures, such as selecting suitable cultivars and utilizing management practices like the use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria to improve wheat performance under salt stress.

Climate change impacts on soil salinity in agricultural areas

Dennis L. Corwin

Summary: Changes in climate patterns are negatively impacting agriculture, especially in arid regions. Proximal/remote sensors are useful in assessing the impact of climate change on soil salinity across scales. Factors such as salt-water intrusion, shallow water tables, and degraded water reuse will lead to increased soil salinity. There is a need for infrastructure and protocols to monitor soil salinity across multiple scales.
