Subcritical Turing patterns in hyperbolic models with cross-diffusion

C. Curro et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the role of hyperbolic models with cross-diffusion in pattern formation in the subcritical regime. It employs weakly nonlinear analysis up to the fifth order to describe the time evolution of pattern amplitude close to the instability threshold, and examines the effects of inertial times on pattern formation in the hyperbolic Schnakenberg model, both analytically and numerically.

Pattern selection in the Schnakenberg equations: From normal to anomalous diffusion

Hatim K. Khudhair et al.

Summary: The study investigates pattern formation in the classical and fractional Schnakenberg equations to understand the nonlocal effects of anomalous diffusion. It is found that smaller diffusive powers in the fractional cases may introduce larger unstable wave numbers and wider bands, leading to more chaotic patterns. The presence of superdiffusion results in multiscale structures in the patterns, with smaller diffusion powers corresponding to larger unstable wave numbers and smaller pattern scales.

Positive steady states of a SI epidemic model with cross diffusion

Nishith Mohan et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel spatiotemporal SI epidemic model with cross diffusion was proposed, showing the possibility of coexistence of participating species under its influence. Mathematical analysis provided insight into the coexistence of susceptible and infected populations, as well as the Turing instability exhibited by the system. Numerical simulation was conducted to observe the patterning behavior of the proposed model system.

Spot patterns in the 2-D Schnakenberg model with localized heterogeneities

Tony Wong et al.

Summary: A hybrid asymptotic-numerical theory has been developed to analyze the impact of localized heterogeneities on localized spot patterns for the two-component Schnakenberg reaction-diffusion model in a 2-D domain. The theory reveals novel phenomena such as saddle-node bifurcations, spot solutions pinned at the feed rate concentration point, and spot self-replication behavior. The results show that localized spots are either repelled or attracted toward the localized defect depending on the type of heterogeneity introduced.

The effect of heterogeneity on one-peak stationary solutions to the Schnakenberg model

Yuta Ishii

Summary: This paper investigates the Schnakenberg model with heterogeneity on the interval (-1, 1), focusing on the construction of stationary solutions and their linear stability. The interaction between heterogeneity and the associated Green's function is found to determine the location of concentration points and stability with respect to eigenvalues of order o(1). Numerical simulations are performed to illustrate the main results in comparison with previous studies.
