Combining laser interferometry and plasma spectroscopy for spatially resolved high-sensitivity plasma density measurements in discharge capillaries

J. M. Garland et al.

Summary: The precise characterization and tailoring of plasma density evolution are critical for high-quality accelerated beams in plasma wakefield accelerators. Two independent diagnostics were used to detect plasma density with unprecedented sensitivity and characterize plasma temperature in discharge capillaries, allowing for highly detailed parameter tuning in plasma sources for particle accelerators and beam optics.

Free-electron lasing at 27 nanometres based on a laser wakefield accelerator

Wentao Wang et al.

Summary: X-ray free-electron lasers are essential tools in structural biology and chemistry, generating intense radiation at sub-angstrom wavelengths. While laser wakefield accelerators are seen as a promising option for driving compact X-ray free-electron lasers, challenges remain due to the relatively poor quality of electron beams. The experimental demonstration of undulator radiation amplification using electron beams from a laser wakefield accelerator shows potential for developing compact X-ray free-electron lasers with a wide range of applications.

Radial density profile and stability of capillary discharge plasma waveguides of lengths up to 40 cm

M. Turner et al.

Summary: The study measured the parameter reproducibility and radial electron density profile of capillary discharge waveguides and found their focusing strength and plasma electron density to be stable and reproducible, with negligible effects on laser-driven plasma wakefield acceleration electron bunch variations. The radial channel profile rises faster than parabolic, with non-parabolic contributions affecting pulse propagation in certain configurations.
