Gait features of dystonia in cerebral palsy

Bhooma R. Aravamuthan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the features cited by motor phenotyping experts when identifying dystonia in individuals with cerebral palsy. Experts reached unanimous consensus for most of the gait videos evaluated, with two main themes emerging during consensus-building discussions: unilateral leg or foot adduction that was variable over time, and difficulty in identifying dystonia. The results highlight the subjective process of dystonia diagnosis and may aid in codifying this process.

Adults with Cerebral Palsy Require Ongoing Neurologic Care: A Systematic Review

Sarah E. Smith et al.

Summary: Neurologic care and research efforts for adults with cerebral palsy are crucial as the majority of people with CP are adults. They are at increased risk of new neurologic conditions that require ongoing monitoring to distinguish from baseline motor impairments, which may contribute to motor function decline, chronic pain, and chronic fatigue.

Systematic Review of N-of-1 Studies in Rare Genetic Neurodevelopmental Disorders The Power of 1

Annelieke R. Mueller et al.

Summary: Twelve studies met the N-of-1 inclusion criteria, with interventions mainly focused on neuropsychiatric manifestations. Most studies utilized personalized and clinically relevant outcomes as main strengths, but the limited use of validated and generalizable outcome measures compromised generalizability.

Pharmacological and neurosurgical interventions for individuals with cerebral palsy and dystonia: a systematic review update and meta-analysis

Emma Bohn et al.

Summary: The updated systematic review on pharmacological and neurosurgical interventions for individuals with CP and dystonia found low to very low certainty evidence supporting improvements in motor function, pain/comfort, ease of caregiving, and quality of life, while evidence supporting improved dystonia and goal achievement was of very low certainty. Adverse events were found to potentially increase with certain interventions.

The Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy Functional Impact Scale: development and validation of a new tool

Kirsty Stewart et al.

Summary: The study aimed to outline the development of a new tool, the Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy Functional Impact Scale (D-FIS), and examine its content and construct validity. The results showed that D-FIS has good construct validity and high internal consistency, making it useful for identifying priorities for intervention and adding to the measurement toolkit for children with dyskinetic CP.

Neural stem cell treatment for perinatal brain injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis of preclinical studies

Madeleine J. Smith et al.

Summary: A systematic review on preclinical literature concludes that neural stem cell (NSC) therapy shows promising results in reducing perinatal brain injury and improving motor and cognitive functions. However, key knowledge gaps exist, including the lack of large animal studies and uncertainties regarding the necessity of immunosuppression for NSC transplantation in neonates. These gaps need to be addressed before NSC treatment can progress effectively to clinical trials.
