Multimodal optical excitation pulsed thermography: Enhanced recognize debonding defects of the solid propellant rocket motor cladding layer

Fei Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the effectiveness of multimodal optical excitation pulsed thermography in enhancing defect detectability and depth-resolution dynamic range for solid propellant rocket motor interfaces. By building a 3D thermal-wave model, proposing feature extraction algorithms, and optimizing the pulse thermography with PLSR and ICA, better detection of interface debonding defects was achieved. Analysis of characteristic profiles indicated that the 1st independent component was more effective in detecting defect depth and diameter.

Electrical conductivity and fiber orientation of poly(methyl methacrylate)/carbon fiber composite sheets with various thickness

Xiaoling Luo et al.

Summary: This study revealed the relationship between the exponent t and the sample thickness for the first time. The conductivity in the Z direction increases with sample thickness, while the conductivity in the XY plane is preferentially oriented. The percolation thresholds in the three directions were found to be approximately equal, independent of thickness and measurement direction.

Identification of the fiber breakage orientation in carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites using induction thermography

Renil Thomas Kidangan et al.

Summary: Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites are favored for their specific strength and toughness, but fiber breakage can significantly impact their performance, particularly in cases of oriented fiber breakage complexity. A new scheme using induction thermography to detect fiber breakage and identify its orientation has been proposed, which could help enhance our understanding of this issue.

Summary: This study proposes a tomographic reconstruction method based on classical ultrasound pulse-echo testing for reconstructing the local in-plane fiber orientation in multi-layer composites. By optimizing the construction of Gabor filters, the process enhances the automation and accuracy of fiber orientations.
