High energy and insensitive explosives based on energetic porous aromatic frameworks

Jian Song et al.

Summary: The concept of energetic porous aromatic frameworks (EPAFs) has been proposed in this study, which successfully assembles high energy explosives within EPAFs to create energetic composite materials with safer impact sensitivity. Energetic porous aromatic frameworks show promising potential as a strategy for creating high energy insensitive energetic materials.

Energetic Nitrogen-Rich Polymers with a Tetrazene-Based Backbone

John Eymann et al.

Summary: New energetic polymers based on polytetrazenes have direct incorporation of energetic groups in the polymer backbone, with decomposition temperature at around 130 degrees Celsius and glass transition temperatures ranging from -34.2 to 0.2 degrees Celsius, lowering to -61 degrees Celsius with a new diazidotetrazene plasticizer. Complete room-temperature depolymerization within 1 week is achieved using hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP), enabling recycling of pyrotechnic compositions with these new binders.

1,3,4-Oxadiazole Bridges: A Strategy to Improve Energetics at the Molecular Level

Jinchao Ma et al.

Summary: A series of 1,3,4-oxadiazole-bridged furazans were synthesized and evaluated for their explosive performance and insensitive properties. The study also considered the impact of introducing 1,3,4-oxadiazole moiety on molecular reactivity and the differences in sensitivities and thermal stabilities of different bridged structures.

Development and Evolution of Energetic Cocrystals

Jonathan C. Bennion et al.

Summary: This article discusses the impact of cocrystallization on the performance, sensitivity to external stimuli, and manufacturability of energetic materials, as well as the motivating effect of cocrystallization on the exploration of novel materials. Cocrystallization combines widely used energetic materials with nonenergetic coformers to alter key properties.

Anti-corrosive mechanism of poly (N-ethylaniline)/sodium silicate electrochemical composites for copper: Correlated experimental and in-silico studies

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: A novel electropolymerized strategy was used to fabricate Poly (N-ethylaniline) (PNEA) composites with varying silicate content on copper, with PNEA-10Si exhibiting optimized properties at 10 mM silicate content. Electrochemical, morphological, and solution analyses showed that PNEA-10Si had superior anti-corrosive performance compared to PNEA, with stable topography and improved protection capacity during long-time immersion.

Investigation of phenol-formaldehyde resins as corrosion impeding agent in acid solution

Bhawna Chugh et al.

Summary: The research focused on developing phenol-formaldehyde resins with azomethine functionalised benzothiazole moiety as corrosion inhibitors for low carbon steel in corrosive acid medium. Experimental results demonstrated the efficient corrosion inhibition performance of the synthesized polymeric resins, with the order of effectiveness being PF4 > PF2 > PF1 > PF3. The substitution in the benzene unit of benzothiazole moiety was found to play a crucial role in the corrosion inhibiting mechanism, with the activation energy steadily increasing after the addition of resins into the corrosive medium.

Taming nitroformate through encapsulation with nitrogen-rich hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks

Jichuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Nitroformate is an attractive oxidant component in propellants and explosives, but its poor thermostability has hindered its application for over 150 years. By incorporating nitroformate into a hydrogen-bonded organic framework, researchers have increased its thermostability, paving the way for the design and synthesis of more stable and high-performance nitroformate-based compounds.
