Osteostimulating Ability of β-tricalcium Phosphate/collagen Composite as a Practical Bone-grafting Substitute: In vitro and in vivo Comparison Study with Commercial One

Summary: The composite of beta-TCP and collagen (beta-TCP/col) showed a comparable bone-regenerating ability to the most commercially available Bio-Oss Collagen (R), inducing significantly accelerated bone formation in in vitro and in vivo experiments. Cells on the beta-TCP/col scaffold exhibited higher expression levels of osteogenic differentiation marker genes compared to Bio-Oss/col scaffold, indicating the potential of beta-TCP/col as a substitute for bone substitute materials.

It was found that high levels of sonoporation may affect cell viability adversely. Optimal conditions for ultrasonic treatment were determined as 8 minutes at 160, 320, and 640 W, showing the potential for an economical and straightforward approach for gene transfer in plant cells.
