Solitons in the dark: First approach to non-linear structure formation with fuzzy dark matter

Mattia Mina et al.

Summary: In this study, we present the results of a cosmological simulation using the new code SCALAR to study the formation and evolution of fuzzy dark matter. Despite limitations on large-scale resolution, the study provides detailed analysis of the formation and evolution of central solitonic cores. The results indicate a shallower halo mass function in the low-mass end due to the quantum nature of the scalar field.

Constraining ultralight axions with galaxy surveys

A. Lague et al.

Summary: This study tests the effective field theory approach to mixed ultralight axion dark matter using mock galaxy catalogs and detects an anisotropic signature of ultralight axions in the galaxy quadrupole. The upper bounds for axion relic density are obtained based on galaxy clustering statistics from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, with improved constraints compared to using only cosmic microwave background data. The computational cost is reduced by 70% through the development of an augmented interpolation scheme.

The effect of inhomogeneous reionization on the Lyman α forest power spectrum at redshift z > 4: implications for thermal parameter recovery

Margherita Molaro et al.

Summary: Using a hybrid hydrodynamical and radiative transfer simulation, we modeled the effect of inhomogeneous reionization on the Lyman alpha forest transmitted flux power spectrum. We found that inhomogeneous reionization can suppress or enhance the power spectrum, highlighting the importance of considering this effect in future high precision measurements.

Fuzzy Dark Matter candidates from string theory

Michele Cicoli et al.

Summary: This paper reassesses the possibility of generating fuzzy dark matter candidates in string theory through a detailed study of the masses and decay constants of different axion fields. It is found that obtaining a significant contribution to the observed dark matter abundance without tuning the axion initial misalignment angle is not a generic feature of 4D string models. The study identifies C-4-axions, C-2-axions, and thraxions as the best candidates to realize fuzzy dark matter in string theory.

Ultralight axions and the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect

Gerrit S. Farren et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of ultralight axion dark matter on the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect and provides new analytic expressions for calculating the observables. The results indicate that future CMB measurements have the potential to detect the presence of axion dark matter and estimate its mass range.

HMCODE-2020: improved modelling of non-linear cosmological power spectra with baryonic feedback

A. J. Mead et al.

Summary: The updated hmcode is able to predict the non-linear matter power spectrum accurately, showing significant improvements in matching simulation results with low error rates across various cosmologies and scales. A simple halo model is also introduced to model the impact of baryonic feedback on the power spectrum, providing a physical understanding of gas expulsion and star formation processes.

Summary: This paper investigates the possibility of a scalar field with a trigonometric potential as dark matter, analyzing its impact on the mass power spectrum and various physical quantities. The study reveals clear distinctions between the axion-like potential and FDM models in different wave numbers and redshifts. Strong Bound on Canonical Ultralight Axion Dark Matter from the Lyman-Alpha Forest

Keir K. Rogers et al.

Summary: By using the Lyman-alpha forest to search for suppressed cosmic structure growth, we present a new lower limit on the ultralight axion (ULA) dark matter mass m(a): m(a) > 2 x 10(-20) eV. This study strongly disfavors the canonical ULA with mass within the range of 10(-22) eV to 10(-21) eV.

Narrowing the Mass Range of Fuzzy Dark Matter with Ultrafaint Dwarfs

Kohei Hayashi et al.

Summary: Research has found that most of the ultrafaint dwarf galaxies prefer FDM particle masses heavier than 10(-21) eV, with Segue 1 providing the strongest constraint. Additionally, the constraints obtained in this study are compatible with various other independent cosmological and astrophysical bounds found in the literature, but are not compatible with the bounds from luminous dwarf galaxies.

Vacuum decay constraints on the Higgs curvature coupling from inflation

Andreas Mantziris et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the lower bound for the Higgs-curvature coupling in three inflationary models is approximately 0.051 to 0.066, depending on the top quark mass. Furthermore, it is shown that vacuum decay is most likely to occur a few e-foldings before the end of inflation.

Superradiance in string theory

Viraf M. Mehta et al.

Summary: In this study, an extensive analysis of axion masses and interactions in compactifications of type IIB string theory was performed, revealing that black hole superradiance excludes certain regions of Calabi-Yau moduli space. The study shows that the properties of astrophysical black holes can probe theories with axion masses falling in a superradiant band, unless disrupted by large axion self-interactions. The mass spectrum of axions is largely determined by the Kahler parameters, with constraints on superradiance conditions varying depending on the value of h(1,1).

General framework for cosmological dark matter bounds using N-body simulations

Keir K. Rogers et al.

Summary: The study presents a general framework for obtaining robust bounds on the nature of dark matter using cosmological N-body simulations and Lyman-alpha forest data. They construct an emulator of hydrodynamical simulations, which is a flexible and accurate model for predicting the response of the Lyman-alpha forest flux power spectrum to different dark matter models, the state of the intergalactic medium, and the primordial power spectrum. The framework can be optimized for the analysis of many other dark matter candidates and demonstrates a powerful approach for robust and computationally efficient inference from the cosmic large-scale structure.

Intensity mapping as a probe of axion dark matter

Jurek B. Bauer et al.

Summary: In this study, intensity mapping of neutral hydrogen in a specific redshift range was conducted using a halo model approach. The distribution of dark matter haloes was assumed to have an impact on the abundance of neutral hydrogen haloes, presenting a scale-independent increase in the power spectrum. The Fisher matrix formalism was used to predict the capability of future HI surveys in constraining the axion fraction of dark matter.
