Determination of seawater biochemical oxygen demand based on in situ cultured biofilm reactor

Huan Lv et al.

Summary: This study cultivated a biofilm reactor in situ for rapid determination of biochemical oxygen demand in seawater, without the need for phosphate buffer solution to avoid secondary pollution. Optimal effects of temperature and flow rate were observed, showing a wide linear range and high detection sensitivity under the optimal conditions.

A kinetic approach to the formation of two-mediator systems for developing microbial biosensors as exemplified by a rapid biochemical oxygen demand assay

Anna S. Kharkova et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method for developing biosensors for the rapid assay of biochemical oxygen demand using rate constants, with yeast showing better oxidation effects on various substrates and neutral red identified as the best mediator. A two-mediator system showed higher sensitivity compared to a one-mediator system, with the combination of ferrocene, neutral red, and yeast enabling highly correlated data with the standard method.

The Regulation of LexA on UV-Induced SOS Response in Myxococcus xanthus Based on Transcriptome Analysis

Duo-hong Sheng et al.

Summary: UV radiation induces the upregulation of 651 genes in M. xanthus, including typical SOS genes, mostly enriched in pathways of DNA replication and repair, secondary metabolism, and signal transduction. Deletion of lexA delays growth in M. xanthus, but UV-induced expression of SOS genes in the lexA mutant is similar to that in the wild-type strain.
