The importance of chemical mechanisms in sonochemical modelling

Csanad Kalmar et al.

Summary: This study introduces a state-of-the-art chemical mechanism to describe the chemical processes inside a harmonically excited spherical bubble in water saturated with oxygen. By comparing it to other models, it is found that an accurate chemical model is crucial for making correct conclusions in sonochemistry.

Coexistence of Flexo- and Ferro-Electric Effects in an Ordered Assembly of BaTiO3 Nanocubes

Kyuichi Yasui et al.

Summary: The flexoelectric effect and ferroelectric effect may both influence the dielectric constant at the nanoscale. While the magnitude of the flexoelectric polarization does not change due to strain mismatch at the interface of nanocubes, it does not contribute to the dielectric constant. However, the ferroelectric component parallel to the electric field may have some impact on the dielectric response.

Acoustic frequency and optimum sonochemical production at single and multi-bubble scales: A modeling answer to the scaling dilemma

Kaouther Kerboua et al.

Summary: This study adopts an innovative approach to address the scalability dilemma of the sonochemical activity dependency on acoustic frequency. Simulations reveal an absolute optimum of sonochemical production at 200 kHz, with HO• reaching its maximum molar yield at 300 kHz. Experimental findings confirm the results and show a clear rebound in the production of predominant species at 500 kHz.

Importance of dislocations in ultrasound-assisted sintering of silver nanoparticles

Kyuichi Yasui et al.

Summary: The study suggests that ultrasonic irradiation can promote sintering of silver nanoparticles by reducing pore size and increasing saturated density. Experimental results show that ultrasound irradiation can increase the densification rate, but does not increase the dislocation density under certain conditions.

Summary: Photodeoxygenation of dibenzothiophene S-oxide and its derivatives generates atomic oxygen to examine its effect on biomolecules and cells. Cell death can occur when exposed to higher concentrations of sulfoxides and UV-A light, while UV-irradiation influences gene expression with specific upregulated and downregulated genes related to photodeoxygenation.

Insight into the impact of excluding mass transport, heat exchange and chemical reactions heat on the sonochemical bubble yield: Bubble size-dependency

Aissa Dehane et al.

Summary: Numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the effects of heat conduction and chemical reactions heat on the chemical bubble yield of single acoustic bubbles. It was found that thermal conduction had a significant impact on production rates, while chemical reactions heat also played a role. Mass transport had a lesser effect on bubble yield. Additionally, the acoustic amplitude and wave frequency were found to influence production rates, with the maximum yield occurring at optimal ambient bubble sizes.
