Bioleaching of manganese from a low-grade pyrolusite ore using Aspergillus niger: Process optimization and kinetic studies

Sahar Keshavarz et al.

Summary: Bioleaching was used to efficiently extract manganese from low-grade ores, with a maximum recovery rate of over 80%. The optimal conditions were determined to be a two-step approach, in a glucose medium, with a pulp density of 1 g.L-1. Kinetic studies revealed a mixed leaching mechanism involving diffusion and chemical reactions.

Bioleaching metals from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) by Aspergillus niger: a review

Jingying Li et al.

Summary: The increasing demand for electrical and electronic equipment in the 21st century has led to a large number of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that needs to be processed and recycled. Biometallurgy has emerged as an environmentally friendly method for WEEE disposal. Studies have focused on the potential of Aspergillus niger in improving metals recycling efficiency, with research on bioleaching mechanisms and methods for metal recovery from WEEE. Insights and perspectives are provided for the industrial application of A. niger in processing scale.
