Development and validation of bioimpedance prediction equations for fat-free mass in unilateral male amputees

Hyuk-Jae Choi et al.

Summary: This study developed segmental estimated regression equations (sEREs) to determine fat-free mass (FFM, kg) suitable for APTs, improving the accuracy and validity of the sERE. Multiple regression analysis was conducted on 75 male APTs to develop highly accurate sEREs based on anthropometric measurements, DXA, and BIA parameters as independent variables. The study confirmed the potential for evaluating FFM in APTs through the developed sEREs and identified key independent variables for consideration in future studies. Further research is needed to validate the sEREs and determine the most appropriate BIA frequencies for measuring FFM in APTs.

Assessment of Body Composition in Athletes: A Narrative Review of Available Methods with Special Reference to Quantitative and Qualitative Bioimpedance Analysis

Francesco Campa et al.

Summary: Body composition is crucial for athletic health and performance, with methods like BIA and BIVA gaining attention for their novel assessment techniques. Specific regression equations and reference tolerance ellipses for athletes are now available, offering new perspectives for accurate evaluation in monitoring nutritional status and seasonal changes in body composition.
