Density functional characterization of Bi-based photocatalysts: BiTao4 Bi4Ta2O11 and Bi7Ta3O18

Juan Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a comparative analysis was conducted on the structural, electronic, and optical properties of four bismuth tantalates using density-functional theory calculations. The photocatalytic capacity of these compounds was predicted by analyzing band edge positions and light absorption. It was found that triclinic BiTaO4 and triclinic Bi7Ta3O18 exhibit excellent carrier mobility and separation of photoexcited electron-hole pairs.

First principles investigation of the structural, elastic, electronic and vibrational properties of vanadium-based V3X (X = Fe, Co, and Ni) compounds

S. Akbudak et al.

Summary: The study investigates the properties of V3X (X = Fe, Co, Ni) intermetallic compounds using the plane wave method within the density functional theory. The results show that V3Co compound is the most stable with metallic features in the A15 phase, while also exhibiting high anisotropy and ductility. Additionally, elastic constants and related quantities have been calculated to analyze the mechanical stability of the compounds.

Density functional theory study on the structural, electronic, optical and photocatalytic properties of BaTa2O6, Ba2Ta15O32, Ba3Ta5O15 and Ba5Ta4O15

Yi-Hua Du et al.

Summary: Through density functional theory calculations, it was found that barium tantalum oxides are indirect band gap semiconductors with weak atomic interactions and superior absorption performance in the ultraviolet region. Among them, BaTa2O6 and Ba3Ta5O15 exhibit advantages in electron mobility and photocatalytic activity.
