Correlating temperature-dependent stacking fault energy and in-situ bulk deformation behavior for a metastable austenitic stainless steel

Summary: In-situ high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments were performed to study the effect of temperature on the deformation behavior of a metastable austenitic stainless steel. The results showed that the temperature change caused significant variations in the deformation mechanism of the alloy.

Description of anisotropic material response of wire and arc additively manufactured thin-walled stainless steel elements

Summary: Compared to conventionally-produced structural steel and stainless steel elements, wire and arc additively manufactured (WAAM) elements exhibit a strongly anisotropic material response. Tensile tests on WAAM stainless steel sheets were conducted to investigate this behavior. The results showed that the mechanical response in the elastic range can be accurately described using an orthotropic plane stress material model, and the anisotropy in the inelastic range can be captured through the Hill yield criterion.

Strengthening contributions of dislocations and twins in warm-rolled TWIP steels

Summary: This study investigates the effect of warm rolling on the deformation mechanisms of TWIP steel. It is found that while dislocation multiplication always controls the maximum flow stress, deformation twinning becomes increasingly important for steels with larger warm rolling reductions. The twinning kinetics is enhanced by the high dislocation densities caused by warm rolling, leading to an enhancement of twinning-induced hardening.
