Shear instability in heterogeneous nanolayered Cu/Zr composites

Jianjun Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the shear instability of a newly designed heterogeneous nanolayered Cu/Zr composites through microindentation. The results show that strain delocalization can be achieved by using an appropriate number of thin bilayers as interlayers, leading to improved strength and resistance to strain localization in the composite material.

In-situ TEM investigation of dislocation loop reaction and irradiation hardening in H2+-He+ dual-beam irradiated Mo

Yipeng Li et al.

Summary: The reaction and transformation of dislocation loops in pure Mo under H-2(+)-He+ dual-beam irradiation at 723K were investigated using in-situ TEM observation. The formation of 1/2 <111> loops and <100> loops can be directly induced by irradiation, with 1/2 <111> loops being dominant. The formation mechanisms of <100> loops, including direct irradiation induced mechanism, 1/2 <111> loop direct conversion mechanism, and reaction mechanism of two 1/2 <111> loops, were confirmed through in-situ observation.

The metastable constituent effects on size-dependent deformation behavior of nanolaminated micropillars: Cu/FeCoCrNi vs Cu/CuZr

Yufang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study explores the deformation behaviors and mechanical properties of Cu/HEA and Cu/MG nanolaminated micropillars with different intrinsic layer thicknesses and extrinsic pillar diameters. The results show that the metastable HEA layers in Cu/HEA micropillars dominate the deformation, while transformation occurs in Cu/MG micropillars. The intrinsic size h and extrinsic size D have a strong coupling effect on the strength of both types of micropillars.

Study on thermal stability and irradiation response of copper/iron nano-multilayer composite fabricated by cross accumulative roll bonding

L. F. Zhang et al.

Summary: Nano-multilayer composites exhibit high strength and good radiation resistance due to their density of interfaces, which is influenced by their thermal stability. Cu/Fe composites with 90 nm thickness show resistance to spheroidization and maintain high strength after annealing, while those with 30 nm thickness experience significant hardness drop. Helium irradiation in Cu/Fe composites at 90 nm thickness leads to columnar voids at interfaces and increased bubble size contributing to hardening after high-temperature irradiation.

Atomic-Scale Hidden Point-Defect Complexes Induce Ultrahigh-Irradiation Hardening in Tungsten

Ruo-Yao Zheng et al.

Summary: Tungsten exhibits high strength in extreme environments, but irradiation hardening limits its service life. Research suggests that ultra-high irradiation hardening in tungsten mainly originates from atomic-scale hidden point-defect complexes.
