Effect of Prior Deformation Above Md Temperature on Tensile Properties of Type 304 Metastable Austenitic Stainless Steel

C. Teena Mouni et al.

Summary: The study compares room temperature tensile properties of type 304 stainless steel treated at different temperatures, with a focus on strain-induced martensite formation. By using magnetic measurements and microscopy, the kinetics of martensite formation in relation to prior deformation temperature and strain is examined.

Reliability and interpretation of the microstructural parameters determined by X-ray line profile analysis for nanostructured materials

Jeno Gubicza

Summary: This overview explores the applicability of X-ray diffraction line profile analysis (XLPA) for characterizing the microstructure of nanostructured materials. Both theoretical considerations and experimental evidences indicate that evaluating the peak breadth alone is not suitable for determining the dislocation density. Furthermore, a comparison between microstructural parameters obtained by XLPA and those obtained by microscopy reveals differences, with the ratio of grain size decreasing as the grain size in nanomaterials decreases.

The modified Williamson-Hall plot and dislocation density evaluation from diffraction peaks

Andras Borbely

Summary: This study numerically calculated diffraction peak profiles for dislocation ensembles with different spatial arrangements and correlations between the Burgers vector signs. The results showed that the arrangement parameter M and the square root of the dislocation density play key roles in determining the relationship between peak breadth and the magnitude of the diffraction vector in the modified Williamson-Hall (mWH) plot. The mWH plot is found to be very useful in practice, indicating a consistent asymptotic line-profile analysis.

Influence of prior deformation temperature on strain induced martensite formation and its effect on the tensile strengthening behaviour of type 304 SS studied by XRDLPA

C. Teena Mouni et al.

Summary: Research on the impact of prior deformation on the room temperature tensile behavior of Type 304 stainless steel was conducted, with a focus on dislocation density and martensite formation. Methods such as X-ray diffraction line profile analysis were used to investigate the changes in structure, highlighting the correlation between composite strength and structural properties.

Microstructural Evolutions under Ultrasonic Treatment in 304 and 316 Austenitic Stainless Steels: Impact of Stacking Fault Energy

Milad Zohrevand et al.

Summary: This study compares the influence of ultrasonic treatment (UST) on the microstructure of AISI-304 and AISI-316 stainless steels, demonstrating the softening effect and relaxation of residual stresses through microhardness measurements and X-ray diffraction (XRD) peak shifting. Electron and optical microscopy reveal the reduction of deformation twins' fraction under ultrasound, with a proposed mechanism for detwinning using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis. The main mechanism of dislocation annihilation due to UST is discussed, with observations of recrystallization phenomenon close to grain boundaries during UST.
