Service Life Design for Concrete Engineering in Marine Environments of Northern China Based on a Modified Theoretical Model of Chloride Diffusion and Large Datasets of Ocean Parameters

Taotao Feng et al.

Summary: This study confirms the values, ranges, and types of distribution of durability parameters used in ocean engineering durability design in northern China through experimental research and analysis of large datasets. The service lives of concrete structures exposed to different zones were calculated using a modified theoretical model and reliability theory. The study also compares the effects of different time-varying relationships on service life and proposes concrete proportions and cover thickness requirements for specific service life requirements.

Experiment and simulation of chloride ion transport and binding in concrete under the coupling of diffusion and convection

Zhiyong Liu et al.

Summary: Through experiments and modeling, it was found that chloride ion migration in unsaturated concrete can be divided into six stages, and the chloride ion binding coefficient is roughly linear with initial saturation. Concrete with 40% fly ash content or 60% sand content has the best blocking effect on chloride ion migration.

Experimental study on water absorption of unsaturated concrete: w/c ratio, coarse aggregate and saturation degree

Lin Yang et al.

Summary: The water transport behavior in concrete plays a crucial role in determining its durability and service life. Factors such as water to cement ratio and volume fraction of coarse aggregate influence the water absorption of concrete, while the particle size of coarse aggregate has no effect on unsaturated concrete. A model has been established to predict the initial rate of water absorption of concrete with any saturation degree.
