Seasonal Variability of the Carbonate System and Air-Sea CO2 Flux in the Outer Changjiang Estuary, East China Sea

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the CO2 exchange in the outer Changjiang Estuary on the inner shelf of the East China Sea through three field surveys. The results showed that the Changjiang Diluted Water area was a source of atmospheric CO2 in July and October, while the Yellow Sea Water and the East China Sea Shelf Water were CO2 sinks in March and July but became sources in October. The study region was a net CO2 sink in March and a net CO2 source in July and October.

Regional differences in seasonal variation of air-sea CO2 exchange in the Yellow Sea

Song-yin Wang et al.

Summary: Studies have shown regional differences in seasonal variations of air-sea CO2 fluxes and sea surface carbonate chemistry in the Yellow Sea, with the Yellow Sea being one of the weakest marine CO2 absorbers among various continental shelves. Integration of biological drawdown, vertical mixing, warming/cooling, and air-sea reequilibration helps explain the seasonal variation of fCO2 in the region.
