Phlorotannins Composition, Radical Scavenging Capacity and Reducing Power of Phenolics from the Brown Alga Cystoseira sauvageauana

Summary: The study evaluated the phenolic composition and antioxidant activity of the brown alga Cystoseira sauvageauana extracted from the Algerian coast, with the ethyl acetate fraction showing the highest amount of phenolic compounds and strong radical scavenging capacity. HPLC-ESI-MS/MS analysis revealed that the fraction mainly consisted of phlorotannins, with the most abundant compounds being two phloroglucinol nonamer isomers. These findings suggest that Cystoseira sauvageauana could serve as a valuable natural source of antioxidants for human health.
