An Unsupervised Deep Learning Approach for Dynamic-Exponential Intravoxel Incoherent Motion MRI Modeling and Parameter Estimation in the Liver

Xin-Xiang Zhou et al.

Summary: This study proposes an unsupervised deep learning approach for voxel-wise dynamic-exponential IVIM modeling and parameter estimation in liver imaging. The proposed method shows high accuracy and robustness in both simulation and in vivo measurements.

b value and first-order motion moment optimized data acquisition for repeatable quantitative intravoxel incoherent motion DWI

Gregory Simchick et al.

Summary: Optimizing b value and motion moment (M-1) data acquisition using 2D sampling improves noise performance and enables repeatable IVIM quantification in the liver. These 2D acquisitions may help advance the establishment of IVIM quantitative biomarkers for liver diseases.

Characterization of the diffusion signal of breast tissues using multi-exponential models

Ana E. Rodriguez-Soto et al.

Summary: RSI decomposes the diffusion-weighted MRI signal into components with known apparent diffusion coefficients, with optimal number and values determined empirically. A triexponential model was found to best describe breast tissue, with larger signal contributions of slower diffusion components in tumors compared to fibroglandular tissue. The tumor conspicuity in breast RSI model was comparable to that of DCE imaging, suggesting potential use as differential features between healthy and malignant breast tissues.

Spectral diffusion analysis of kidney intravoxel incoherent motion MRI in healthy volunteers and patients with renal pathologies

Julia Stabinska et al.

Summary: The feasibility of measuring tubular and vascular signal fractions in the human kidney using NNLS analysis of intravoxel incoherent motion data was assessed in healthy volunteers and patients with renal pathologies. Results showed distinct differences in diffusion spectra and signal fractions between healthy and pathological kidneys, indicating the potential value of NNLS-based intravoxel incoherent motion in assessing changes in tubular and vascular volume fractions under pathophysiological conditions.

An optimized b-value distribution for triexponential intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) in the liver

Andreas Riexinger et al.

Summary: The study aimed to find an optimized b-value distribution for reproducible triexponential IVIM exams in the liver. The optimized b-value distribution resulted in higher fit stability compared to distributions used in literature, both in simulation and in vivo measurements. Using more than 6 b-values, ideally 16 or more, increased fit stability considerably in triexponential IVIM exams.

Evidence of Tri-Exponential Decay for Liver Intravoxel Incoherent Motion MRI: A Review of Published Results and Limitations

Olivier Chevallier et al.

Summary: Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) are used to assess liver tumors and diffused liver diseases. IVIM can assess molecular diffusion of water and microcirculation of blood, but high variance in D-fast estimates restricts its application in clinical practice for liver IVIM. Further research on a tri-exponential model may be more suitable to describe the DWI signal for liver IVIM.
