A Self-Protection Effect of Monomers on Preventing Gelation in Synthesis of Main-Chain Polybenzoxazines with High Molecular Weights

Summary: In this work, an effective approach using Meldrum's acid-containing diamine (MADA) as a functional monomer has been demonstrated to address the gelation and low molecular weight issues in the polymerization system of main-chain PBz. The resulting cross-linked PBz shows superior film formability, flexibility, high glass transition temperature, and Young's modulus compared to conventional oxydianiline-based cross-linked PBz, indicating significant advances in both PBz synthesis and properties.
