Increasing cell density/decreasing cell size to produce microcellular and nanocellular thermoplastic foams: A review

Taher Azdast et al.

Summary: Polymeric foams have attracted attention for their unique properties such as high strength to weight ratio, excellent thermal and sound insulation, and low cost. Researchers have shown that increasing cell density/decreasing cell size can achieve superior thermal insulation. The most efficient solutions include using nucleating agents, increasing blowing agent solubility, and using nanoparticles to achieve microcellular and nanocellular structures.

Fabrication of Structurally Controlled Poly(n-butyl acrylate) Particles by Ab Initio Emulsion Organotellurium-Mediated Radical Polymerization. Synthesis of High Molecular Weight Homo and Block Copolymers

Yuhan Jiang et al.

Summary: High molecular weight poly(butyl acrylate)s and diblock copolymers were successfully synthesized using water-soluble organotellurium chain transfer agents in water, achieving high monomer conversion rates and low viscosity due to stable latex formation. The presence of termination reactions in reversible deactivation radical polymerization has been a limiting factor for synthesizing HMW polymers, but high end group fidelity was confirmed through block copolymer synthesis under the current conditions.

Flexible Nanoporous Materials by Matrix Removal from Cylinder-Forming Diblock Copolymers

Hongyun Xu et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized materials with nanoporous structures through thermal cross-linking and selective chemical etching, challenging the expectation that remaining cylinders cannot form a continuous material. Scanning electron microscopy imaging revealed the interconnected nanostructures, while permeation behavior of poly(ethylene oxide) based on hydrodynamic radius directly demonstrated the continuity and size selectivity of the material.

Deep learning-based estimation of Flory-Huggins parameter of A-B block copolymers from cross-sectional images of phase-separated structures

Katsumi Hagita et al.

Summary: This study investigated the estimation of the Flory-Huggins chi parameter of A-B diblock copolymers using deep learning based on two-dimensional cross-sectional images of three-dimensional phase-separated structures. The study found that the learned networks performed well under certain conditions but had difficulty distinguishing images for larger chi N values.
