Superhydrophilic Polymer Brushes with High Durability and Anti-fogging Activity

Michele Fromel et al.

Summary: The study introduces a fully aqueous surface-initiated polymerization method for the formation of durable superhydrophilic polymer coatings. The approach utilizes water as a sole solvent and mild yellow light to improve durability and overcome traditional limitations related to monomer solubility and oxygen tolerance. Polymer films engineered through this method show promise as functional materials with enhanced durability, effectively combatting surface fogging challenges.

Spherical polyelectrolyte brushes as bio-platforms to integrate platinum nanozyme and glucose oxidase for colorimetric detection of glucose

Qingsong Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a facile and general strategy to integrate nanozymes and natural enzymes for cascade reactions using SPB as bio-platforms. The co-immobilized Pt nanozymes and GOX within SPB act as effective biosensors for colorimetric detection of glucose, showing high selectivity and feasibility.

Origin of Underwater Oil-Repellence in Polyelectrolyte Brush Surfaces

Dan Daniel et al.

Summary: The research shows that polyelectrolyte brush surfaces are more oil-repellent when submerged under water due to the ability of charged moieties on the polymer backbone to retain strong hydration shells. Measurements of interaction forces between polyelectrolyte brushes and oil droplets reveal that surfaces with repulsive electric double-layer forces are most oil-repellent, and once a stable hydration layer forms, the characteristics of the polymer brush do not affect the oil-repellent performance.
