Reversible Patterning Cross-Linked, Humidity-Responsive Polymer Films with Programmatically and Accurately Controlled Deformation

Qiwen Yan et al.

Summary: A series of novel humidity-responsive and photosensitive polymer films have been prepared, which can control humidity-induced deformation through patterned cross-linking and change deformation direction programmatically through reversible photodimerization. Additionally, the length and width ratio between un-crosslinked and cross-linked segments affects the deformation of the films.

A pH-Responsive Phase-Transition Polymer with High Serum Stability in Cytosolic Protein Delivery

Song Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presented a dendrimer engineered with a high density of 4-diethylaminophenyl groups on the surface, which could efficiently assemble with cargo proteins in serum solutions, enabling intracellular protein delivery. The dendrimer exhibited pH-responsive disassembly behavior after cell internalization, successfully delivering various cargo proteins into living cells with maintained bioactivity. This provides a convenient and efficient strategy for designing polymers with high serum-tolerance in cytosolic protein delivery.

Synergistic photoactuation of bilayered spiropyran hydrogels for predictable origami-like shape change

Chuang Li et al.

Summary: The development of stimuli-responsive soft matter that can rapidly respond to visible light and mimic living organisms is a challenging task in materials science. By molecularly engineering photoactuators, complex and predictable bio-inspired shape changes can be achieved through the simultaneous photoexpansion and photocontraction of bilayer actuators, leading to fast bending actuation. By bridging the synergistic bilayers with light-inactive segments, macroscopic constructs capable of undergoing programmable 3D origami-like shape changes upon irradiation were created, demonstrating the possibility of mimicking functions associated with living organisms.
