Facile synthesis and characterization of chitosan/zinc oxide nanocomposite for enhanced antibacterial and photocatalytic activity

Gunasekaran Madhan et al.

Summary: In this study, CS/ZnO nanocomposite with enhanced antibacterial and photocatalytic properties was successfully synthesized using Sida acuta. The nanocomposite showed remarkable growth inhibition activity against B. subtilis and E. coli, while also exhibiting time-dependent photo degradation activity under sunlight irradiation. Overall, the functionalization of biopolymer CS with inorganic ZnO enhanced the bio and catalytic properties of the nanocomposite.

Plant-derived antioxidants incorporated into active packaging intended for vegetables and fatty animal products: a review

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: The food industry is currently focusing on enhancing the shelf life of products by utilizing natural antioxidants, which can prevent lipid oxidation without altering the color or taste of food. Plant-derived antioxidants are becoming increasingly popular in food preservation due to their eco-friendly nature. Research on plant-derived antioxidants, such as encapsulating them in capsules for industrial production, is advancing and promoting their commercial application in active packaging.

Preparation and antimicrobial activity of pectin-chitosan embedding nisin microcapsules

Junqing Qian et al.

Summary: The study prepared nisin microcapsules to improve the stability of nisin and enhance its application effectiveness in food. The microcapsules, prepared by complex embedding nisin with pectin and chitosan, showed good loading and encapsulation efficiency. It was observed that there is a release process in the microcapsules, but the thermal stability of nisin microcapsules significantly increased after high temperature treatment.
