Intelligent Breathing Soliton Generation in Ultrafast Fiber Lasers

Xiuqi Wu et al.

Summary: Generating pulse from an ultrafast laser is challenging task that involves adjusting multiple control parameters. Machine-learning tools have shown potential for designing smart lasers. The use of evolutionary algorithms for self-optimization of breather regime in fiber lasers opens up a new avenue for exploration and optimization of complex dynamics in nonlinear systems.

Numerical Insights Into the Pulse Instability in a GHz Repetition-Rate Thulium-Doped Fiber Laser

Huihui Cheng et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the pulse instability in GHz repetition-rate thulium-doped fiber laser by using a combined physical model incorporating rate equations and nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Two pulsating regimes are predicted, and a novel pulse instability in continuous wave mode locking is revealed, providing reliable guidance for designing high repetition rate mode-locked fiber lasers.

Breather Molecular Complexes in a Passively Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

Junsong Peng et al.

Summary: This study observed different types of breather complexes in a mode-locked fiber laser, with intermolecular temporal separation reaching several hundreds of picoseconds, indicating long-range interactions. This opens the possibility of studying the dynamics of many-body systems where breathers are the elementary constituents.

Concurrent Passive Mode-Locked and Self-Q-Switched Operation in Laser Systems

J. Guo et al.

Summary: Concurrent passive mode-locked and self-Q-switched operation of laser devices is modeled using the complex cubic-quintic Ginzburg-Landau equation. Experimental observations show good qualitative agreement with the numerical results on the shape of each individual self-Q-switched pulse and the periodic trains of pairs of such pulses.

Review on Experimental and Theoretical Investigations of Ultra-Short Pulsed Laser Ablation of Metals with Burst Pulses

Daniel J. Foerster et al.

Summary: The use of ultra-short double pulses for laser processing has been attracting attention since the early 2000s. Over the past decade, pulse bursts consisting of multiple pulses with delays of several tens of nanoseconds have entered the field of micromachining of metals, opening up new process regimes and improving the structuring rates and surface quality of machined samples. Various physical effects have led to a new understanding of machining strategies and processing regimes, with experimental and numerical investigations placing results in context for different time scales during laser processing.
