Hemolytic Response of Iron Oxide Magnetic Nanoparticles at the Interface and in Bulk: Extraction of Blood Cells by Magnetic Nanoparticles

Vandana Agarwal et al.

Summary: This study synthesized surface-active and water-soluble magnetic nanoparticles using different functional groups of amphiphilic molecules. The results showed that the nanoparticles synthesized with strong hydrophobicity and low hydrophilic-lipophilic balance were highly cytotoxic, while those synthesized with mild biological surfactants and sugars exhibited excellent blood cell extraction ability with minimal hemolysis.

Summary: This study reports the transformation of aqueous micelles of gemini surfactants to a bilayer of surfactants on the surface of gold nanoparticles. The process is characterized using various techniques and fluorescence measurements. The results help understand the mechanism of drug loading in metal nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems.

Distinguishing Nanoparticle-Nanoparticle Interactions between Gold and Silver Nanoparticles Controlled by Gemini Surfactants: Stability of Nanocolloids

Shawn Riedesel et al.

Summary: The study focused on nanoparticle-nanoparticle interactions using oppositely charged Au and Ag NP colloidal suspensions, and examined the effect of head group and hydrophobic tail modifications on their interactions. Results showed that interactions can be screened or delayed by modifying the molecular structure of Gemini surfactants, leading to colloidal suspensions with longer shelf life and improved industrial applicability.

Amphiphilic Au Nanoclusters Modulated by Magnetic Gemini Surfactants as a Cysteine Chemosensor and an MRI Contrast Agent

Mengjiao Yi et al.

Summary: The study found that cationic magnetic Gemini surfactants can efficiently induce the aggregation of glutathione-protected gold nanoclusters, affecting their luminescent and magnetic properties. Ce and Gd showed better enhancement effects. The luminescent aggregates can be used for detecting cysteine and as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging.
